La Verne Claims No. 1 in D3 Volleyball Rankings, Juniata Continues To Slide
La Verne takes No. 1 in DIII volleyball for the first time in 23 years, East Texas Baptist stays perfect, and Juniata and Wisconsin-Whitewater slide down.

Previously overlooked teams rise to the top in the NCAA D3 volleyball rankings week four shake ups.
La Verne volleyball ranks No. 1 for their first time in twenty-three years. Their 8-0 record topping the charts so far this season.
No. 2 East Texas Baptist follows closely behind and boasts the longest winning streak in their 13-0 undefeated season among all top 25 teams.
While some rise, others fall.
After Juniata ended their nearly three year, 103-game winning streak last week at the hands of Wittenburg, the team found another loss to No. 6 Johns Hopkins. The Javelinas fell four more places to No. 8. Wisconsin-Whitewater, previously the top dog, lost its first two games in week three, causing their slide to No. 4.

The La Verne Leopards haven’t played a game since Sept. 13, week three of play. Their new position at the top is reaping the fruit of their previous efforts. In the UW-Oshkosh Invitational, the Leopards took down Wisconsin-Oshkosh (then still No. 3) and Hope College (then No. 8).
These two back-to-back wins showed La Verne could take on even the best of the best.
The East Texas Baptist Tigers have stayed perfect the entire season and have been slowly creeping up the rankings. With the season in full swing, the Tigers’ success is more than a fluke. Two 3-0 sweeps against Centenary College and Mary Hardin-Baylor are the most recent feathers in the Tigers’ win cap.
Fans may have expected Juniata’s week three loss to be a one off after their historically winning program. The recent 3-1 loss to Johns Hopkins makes the case that the Javelinas may still have some tightening to do to their game. In all fairness, Hopkins is a formidable opponent and boasts a 10-2 record this season.
Wisconsin-Whitewater found their first loss against UW-Eau Claire in a hard fought 2-3 battle. The next day the Warhawks lost in a 0-3 sweep by Saint Olaf College. The team has plenty of time to bounce back before the season’s end. Wisconsin-Whitewater still earned five first-place votes, the second highest after La Verne (74).
