D3 Women's Volleyball Rankings: Wisconsin-Oshkosh Surges in Week 2
Wisconsin-Oshkosh climbs into the top three of the D3 women’s volleyball rankings after a 9-0 start.
The second week of D3 volleyball rankings from the AVCA revealed a new star: Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Though Juniata and Wisconsin-Whitewater remain in the top two spots, Hope dropped from third with Wisconsin-Oshkosh taking its place. Oshkosh claimed the second-highest first-place votes (6) after Juniata in this week’s poll.

Oshkosh sits at a 9-0 season record, the current highest win record in DIII women’s volleyball, five of which are sweeps. A nine-win streak is already impressive, but three of their four week two wins were against top 15 teams. The most notable win was against Emory University, then ranked fifth, in a 3-1 match. This served as Emory’s first loss of the season, dropping them to sixth.
Oshkosh has remained cool and collected against every opponent. The team doesn’t face off against Juniata (No. 1), winner of the last three NCAA national championships, until November, giving them time to tighten their already explosive game.
Juniata continues their multi-year win streak in week two. Their game hasn’t been challenged to its fullest yet, with the highest-ranking opponent being Marietta (No. 15). Their first matchup against a top team will come in week four against Johns Hopkins (No. 4).
Hope experienced a bit of a stumble against Denison University on Friday in their first loss of the season (2-3). However, they finished their weekend in Ohio strong with two back-to-back wins against Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg. They dropped to No. 8 in the rankings but could easily bounce back in future weeks.
Dubuque and Virginia Wesleyan join the top 25 list for the first time this season at twenty-third and twenty-fourth, respectively. They both sport 8-0 season records. As they begin playing higher-ranked teams, fans will gain a better sense of their true skills as teams.
