NCAA D2 Women's Volleyball Rankings: Week 1 Shakes Up Top Teams
NCAA D2 Women's Volleyball Rankings: Week 1 Shakes Up Top Teams
After Week 1, the AVCA/TARAFLEX D2 women's volleyball rankings see big changes. Lynn and Angelo State stay on top, while new contenders rise.

It only took one week of play to shake up the rankings.
The week one AVCA/TARAFLEX DII women's volleyball poll was just released, and it looks markedly different from the preseason poll. Lynn (No. 1) and Angelo State (No. 2) stay on top, as some of the previously lower schools, including MSU Denver, Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M, make their way to the top five.
All top-five schools started the season with a perfect 4-0 record.

San Francisco State took a dramatic fall from fourth in preseason to twenty-third after going 0-4 in week one. A major factor in their early-season struggle is their host of new talent, who are still warming up to the program. Chaminade also experienced a slide from ninth to twenty-fourth. They began the season with four consecutive losses, two respite wins, and left off on a loss. However, being named at all serves as a win for the Swords, who are sporting a program-record 29-week streak of staying on the list.
St. Cloud State started at third but now sits at tenth. They lost two away games but won two neutral games. Their next stretch of matches takes place at home, where their true power can shine. Next week will be a better determinant of their play for the rest of the season.
Washburn made a mighty climb to twelfth after spending the preseason poll near the bottom at twenty-second. They won all four of their week-one games, three without dropping a set.
As teams find their sea legs, week two will reveal more and more strengths between programs.
