During the recruiting process, it’s a good idea to think about things from a college coach’s perspective. Try to get into their heads and understand what they’re looking for in a recruit.
Here are some things that separate top recruits:
- Athleticism and potential
- Jump touch and quickness--to play front row for a Division I program, a player should probably touch 9’9” or above
- Academics
- Experience
- Attitude
- Work ethic
- Versatility
- X factors
Here’s what you will be evaluated on when a coach is watching you compete:
- How high you play above the net
- Pursuit of balls
- Attitude
- How hard you play, when winning and when losing and when in pressure situations
- How you act and interact with people on and off the court
- Listening skills
- Behavior on the bench
