USA Women Earn A Spot In FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round

The U.S. women's national team went 2-1 in its third weekend of World Grand Prix competition in Cuiaba, Brazil, on Sunday, finishing the preliminary rounds with a 6-3 record and 19 points and a spot in the Final Round.

USA Women Earn A Spot In FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round
The U.S. women's national team went 2-1 in its third weekend of World Grand Prix competition in Cuiaba, Brazil, on Sunday, finishing the preliminary rounds with a 6-3 record and 19 points and a spot in the Final Round.

The USA women finished second overall, behind only Serbia, which went 7-2 for 22 total points in the preliminary rounds.

In the third weekend of play, USA defeated Netherlands and Belgium, both in four sets, and lost to Brazil, also in four. After the victory over Belgium, the U.S. was already guaranteed a spot in the Final Round, but the match was a must win for Brazil.

Middle Tori Dixon and outside Megan Courtney led with 12 points each in the loss to Brazil. Against Belgium, outside hitter Madi Kingdon tallied a team-high 18 points, 16 kills, and two blocks. In the Netherlands match, outside hitter Michelle Bartsch-Hackley collected an impressive match-high 23 points on 18 kills, two blocks, and three aces.

Joining Serbia and the USA in the World Grand Prix Final Round are Brazil, Netherlands, Italy, and Final Round host China.

The Final Round is set for August 2-6 in Nanjing, China.
