Florida State and Texas A&M met on the first night of the Puerto Rico Clasico on Thursday, September 1. The then-unranked Seminoles went down 0-2 out of the gate to the then-No. 12 Aggies, and it looked as if the higher-ranked team had the victory in hand.
But as the weekend went on, we learned that although Florida State doesn't start well, the team knows how to fight. Thanks to that grit, the Seminoles claimed the victory over A&M in five sets 18-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-8.
FSU opposite Milica Kubura and outside hitter Christina Ambrose shone especially bright in the match, and put away 13 kills each. This dynamic duo also came up big on the defensive side with three and seven blocks, respectively, and five digs for Ambrose. Both players made the Puerto Rico Clasico All-Tournament Team.
Florida State went 2-1 overall at the Puerto Rico Clasico and lost only to Minnesota, but managed to take a set off the Gophers.
