The Olympic qualification period for beach volleyball came to an end yesterday at the conclusion of the FIVB Hamburg Major.
Fifteen teams per gender earned their ticket to Rio through the provisional Olympic rankings, while two teams per gender received berths by winning the 2015 World Championships or by being the chosen representatives for host country Brazil.
Each team that earned entrance to the Olympics through the provisional Olympic rankings will need to be confirmed by its respective national federation.

Seven spots per gender remain in the 24-team per gender Olympic competition. Five of the available spots per gender will be assigned to the winners of the Continental Cup competitions hosted by each of the five FIVB confederations. Countries that already qualified two teams per gender through the provisional rankings are not eligible to send any teams to the Continental Cup competitions.
The second- and third-place finishers from each Continental Cup will have one final chance to qualify for Rio at the Continental Cup Finals, July 6-10, in Sochi, Russia. Two berths per gender will be granted at this competition.
The African federation hosted its Continental Cup earlier in the spring, with Tunisia claiming a spot on the men’s side and Egypt earning the berth on the women’s side. Morocco and Angola finished second and third on the men’s side and will compete in the Continental Cup Finals along with teams from women’s No. 2 and No. 3 finishers Rwanda and Nigeria.
The drawing of lots for the Rio beach volleyball competition will take place at the Gstaad Major on the evening of July 9.
