Terry Liskevych, Oregon State's head women’s volleyball coach and former head coach of the U.S. women’s national team, has announced his retirement.

After joining Oregon State in 2005, Liskevych led the Beavers to an NCAA round-of-16 appearance in 2014. Prior to his time in Corvallis, Oregon, Liskevych spent 11 years (1985-1996) coaching the women’s national team that earned bronze at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and gold at the 1995 FIVB World Grand Prix. He also played a major role in developing the University of Pacific's women's team, which grew into a national powerhouse in the late 70s and early 80s.

Born in Munich, Germany, Liskevych played soccer for Loyola University in Chicago. While pursuing his doctorate in physical education at George Williams College, he landed his first volleyball coaching gig as an assistant under legendary men’s national team head coach Jim Coleman. In 1974, he joined the Ohio State men’s volleyball program as head coach.

Liskevych co-founded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA; known formerly as the Collegiate Volleyball Association), which included him in the inaugural AVCA Hall of Fame class in 2003.

The all-time wins leaders at Oregon State plans to relocate to San Diego, but hopes to stay involved with the sport and mentor young coaches. Associate Oregon State coach Mark Barnard will serve as interim head coach while the OSU athletic department conducts their search for a replacement.
