Ranked D2 Teams, CAA Volleyball Conference Play Headline This Week On FloCollege

Volleyball takes center stage on FloCollege this week with nationally ranked Division II programs in action, the opening weekend of CAA conference play and matchups stretching from California to the East Coast.

The week begins with the nation’s new No. 1 team back on the court. Ferris State climbed four spots to lead the latest FloCollege D2 Volleyball Rankings after winning the Colorado Premier Challenge without dropping a set. The undefeated Bulldogs host Wayne State (Mich.) on Tuesday before welcoming Michigan Tech to Big Rapids on Friday.

Several other teams from the FloCollege Top 25 will also be featured throughout the week. No. 16 Wingate opens with Coker on Tuesday, then faces Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday and Catawba on Saturday. No. 25 Ohio Dominican has three opportunities to build on its early-season rise, beginning at West Liberty before matchups with Thomas More and Kentucky Wesleyan.

One of the weekend’s biggest ranked showdowns arrives Saturday when No. 3 Fresno Pacific faces No. 13 Cal State San Bernardino. The Sunbirds moved to 7-0 during their run through the Denali Ice Block Classic, while Cal State San Bernardino made one of the largest jumps in the latest rankings after opening the season 7-0. No. 23 Cal Poly Pomona will also be in action against San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay.

At the Division I level, CAA conference play brings a full weekend of head-to-head matchups. Northeastern visits Towson, Hampton travels to Hofstra and Stony Brook meets William & Mary on both Friday and Saturday. Charleston and Elon close the week with another conference matchup Sunday.

The CAA enters league play with several players already among the national leaders. Charleston sophomore Caroline Noonan owns a conference-best .485 hitting percentage, while Stony Brook’s Damisi Osibodu, UNCW’s Courtney Graham and Elon’s Caroline Berlekamp all rank inside the national top 25 in total blocks. UNCW has also been one of the country’s most dangerous serving teams, led by Elaina Murphy’s 14 aces.

Before conference play begins, North Carolina A&T visits Wake Forest on Thursday. Aggies outside hitter Tyne Ross entered the previous weekend closing in on 1,000 career kills, adding another milestone chase to a packed week of volleyball.

Ranking factors include:

Voter points
Preseason seed
Win percentage
Total margin of victory
Quality wins

Preseason positioning and voter input established the foundation for the inaugural rankings. As the season progresses, results, quality wins and overall performance will take on a greater role in determining each week’s Top 25.
