Lynn University faced its first loss of the season this week, falling to Barry (1-3) and snapping a 23-game winning streak. The defeat knocked Lynn from the No. 1 spot—where they had remained since the preseason poll—down to No. 6 in this week’s AVCA Division II Women’s Volleyball Rankings.

The last remaining undefeated teams in the nation now claim the top four positions:

Missouri Western Drops Out, Alaska-Fairbanks Moves In

Missouri Western dropped out of the rankings entirely after a disappointing start to conference play, losing 0-3 to Emporia State. Their exit made room for No. 23 Alaska-Fairbanks (13-1). The Nanooks have been building momentum since Week 1 and are now on a 13-match win streak.

Barry Dominates Lynn in Rivalry Match

Lynn's loss came at the hands of conference rival Barry College, in Boca Raton, Fla. Despite playing on their home court, the Fighting Knights couldn’t find an equalizer in the fourth set, and Barry closed out the match.

Set scores: 17-25, 25-19, 15-25, 16-25.

Barry played an overall cleaner and more disciplined match. Although both teams recorded 47 kills, Barry outperformed Lynn in several other category:

  • Aces: Barry 14, Lynn 4
  • Blocks: Barry 11, Lynn 4
  • Hitting percentage: Barry .336, Lynn .199
  • Errors: Lynn 20, Barry 10

The Buccaneers have had a dominant season so far, winning six of their nine matches by sweep.
