Campbell vs William & Mary: CAA Volleyball Clash of Defense vs Offense
William & Mary’s elite blocking faces Campbell’s explosive offense as the two CAA rivals meet Sept. 26 in Williamsburg for a pivotal volleyball showdown.
William & Mary and Campbell have been neck and neck since week one, and no more than two teams have stood between them in the rankings since. After missing the first weekend of conference play, the two teams jump into CAA action on Sept. 26, 6 p.m. ET in Williamsburg, Va., ready for a fight.
The pair missed each other last year in CAA play. Their latest matchups came in 2023, with back-to-back meetings that both went Campbell’s way (0-3, 2-3). Since then, both programs have developed into stronger contenders and will be eager to secure a win in this year’s matchup.

Campbell has shown remarkable steadiness and confidence on the court, with an 8-3 season record to prove it. After working out early-season kinks during the week one South Carolina Tournament, the Fighting Camels surged on a six-game winning streak.
Offense has been Campbell’s calling card. The team boasts 506 kills this season compared to just 438 by opponents, averaging 13 kills per set. Two out of three weeks, a Campbell player has taken home the Offensive Player of the Week honor: Maja Daca in week two and Gwen Wolkov in week three.
The Fighting Camels’ most recent setback was a 0-3 loss to Northwestern—their first since week one. Still, their three losses have all come against Power Four programs, where Campbell consistently showed resilience even in defeat.
William & Mary enters at 5-6 overall, though their record doesn’t tell the full story. Their latest tournament began with a dominant 3-0 win over Delaware State but ended with two losses to UTRGV and James Madison. Despite inconsistencies, the Tribe’s strength lies in their defensive prowess and ability to disrupt opponents.
William & Mary currently ranks second in the nation in blocks per set (3.27), seventh in total blocks (98), and 22nd in aces per set (2.1). Led by a front line that thrives on creating pressure at the net, the Tribe has the tools to counter Campbell’s offensive firepower. If William & Mary finds rhythm early, their blocking game could tilt the momentum in their favor.
