The Georgetown Women’s Basketball program starts a new era in 2023 as Tasha Butts takes over the program as head coach. The former Tennessee Volunteer star assumes control of the Hoyas following a stint as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech.

Before Georgia Tech, Butts spent eight seasons as an assistant at LSU. She started her coaching career as an assistant at DePaul in 2007 and also coached at UCLA. 

In her first head coaching job, she has her work cut out for her. 

Butts inherits a program that went 14-17 overall and just 6-14 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas haven’t had a winning season since the 2018-2019 season when they were 19-15 under the previous head coach, James Howard.

Georgetown enters the year hoping it can return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012, when Terry Williams-Flournoy coached the program to the NCAA second round, which was the third-straight tournament appearance for the program.

When Is The BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Tournament?

BIG EAST Teams will compete for the automatic qualifier for the 2024 NCAA Tournament beginning March 8 in Uncasville, Conn. The BIG EAST Tournament Championship Game is March 11. 

When Is The 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament?

Selection Sunday is March 17, 2024 for the NCAA Women’s Tournament. The first four will tip-off on March 20, with the round of 64 beginning on March 22.
