Day three of the Klagenfurt Major has come to a close, and all hopes of a medal for Team USA on the women's side have been demolished.

Lane Carico and Summer Ross, Emily Day and Brittany Hochevar and Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes all lost in the first round of elimination play, with all three teams going out in close three-set matches.

nullClaes and Hughes started the tournament with a bang, defeating tournament No. 1 seeds Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst of Germany in pool play and then taking down Canadians Kristina Valjas and Jamie Broder. Their luck started to turn after that, however, and they lost their final pool match to Brazil's Angela Lavalle and Eliza Maia and were eliminated by Nina Betschart and Tanja Huberli of Switzerland in the first round to finish 17th.

Ludwig and Walkenhorst redeemed their loss to Hughes and Claes by winning their remaining two pool play matches and earning a bye in the first round. They'll take on Victoria Bieneck and Julia Grossner of Germany tomorrow in the second round of elimination.

The men are still in pool play, with brothers Taylor and Trevor Crabb faring the best of all American teams. The Crabb bros are 2-0 in pool after sweeping countrymen Tri Bourne and John Hyden and winning a close three-setter versus Clemens Doppler and Alexander Horst of Austria. Tomorrow they'll take on Dmitri Barsouk and Nikita Liamin of Russia, a match which will determine the winner of the pool.

Bourne and Hyden and Billy Allen and Theo Brunner are both 0-2, and John Mayer and Ryan Doherty are 1-1.

Three Rio-bound men's teams are the favorites to win this event: Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins of Latvia, Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen of the Netherlands and Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk of Canada. All three of these teams are currently 2-0 in pool.
