Another Victory for April and Kerri Wraps Up Day 5 of the Olympics

Recap: Olympic Volleyball Day 5

April Ross and Kerri Walsh Jennings’ three-set victory over Switzerland’s Anouk Verge-Depre and Isabelle Forrer wrapped up all USA action for the fifth day of Olympic volleyball competition.

The second-set loss was only Walsh Jennings' second set she has lost in any of her appearances in the Olympics. The last time she lost a set, it was also to a Swiss team: Stefanie and Doris Schwaiger in London. The lapse in domination was only momentary, however, and the top American duo came back to win the third set and top their pool.

Unfortunately for one duo of American Olympians, Day 5 would also be their last day on the sand in Rio. Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb lost their final pool play match to Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera, to finish 1-2 overall and in fourth place in Pool F. At the end of the beach volleyball pool play, the top two teams in each pool advance, as do the two best ranked third-place teams. The final four third-place teams face off in two “lucky loser” matches per gender.

The USA women’s indoor team, by contrast, continued its winning streak, taking down Serbia in four sets. Karsta Lowe collected her first kills of the Olympics, coming in as a double sub alongside Carli Lloyd.

Rachael Adams, who we nominate as match MVP, collected a team-high 13 kills and four aces.

Tomorrow, beach volleyball pool play wraps up and the USA men take on host team Brazil.
