Day Three Highlights From Montreux

The third day of the 2017 Montreux Volley Masters featured another trio of big matches.
 
The Netherlands and Switzerland faced off in the first match of the day, with both teams needing a victory in order to keep alive their hope of advancing to the semifinals.
 
Although the Netherlands ended up winning in four (23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-20), Switzerland won the first set, celebrating the first time in many years it has won a set at the very competitive Montreux Volley Masters.
 
The Netherlands turned up the heat from the second set on, tallying a total of 16 blocks to Switzerland’s two. Celeste Plak and Tessa Polder both added 18 points for the Dutch squad.
 
In Pool B, Germany used its momentum from an upset of Brazil on day two of competition to lead it to a victory over Thailand in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20). Louisa Lippmann led the German team for the second consecutive match, this time putting away a match-high 31 points.
 
Germany now leads Pool B with a 2-0 record, while Brazil and Poland are each 1-1 and Thailand is winless.
 
Continuing the trend of the final match of the day going to five sets, Argentina and China went back and forth all the way to the very end of the fifth set. Argentina came away with the victory in the end, with final scores of 25-20, 18-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-13.
 
The hero for Argentina was Paula Yamila Nizetich, who contributed 18 total points.
 
Tomorrow, in the final day of pool play competition in Montreux, Germany and Poland kick off the competition at 10:30 AM ET, and Thailand vs. Brazil and Switzerland vs. Argentina follows.
