Three-time Olympic gold medalist and one-time Olympic bronze medalist, Kerri Walsh Jennings, has appointed esteemed Olympic beach volleyball coach Dane Selznick as the director of competition and sport for p1440—an event series which encompasses a professional beach volleyball tournament, personal development experiences, a music festival, and a health and wellness village.

Selznick will advise p1440 on all beach volleyball related elements, be on the board for competition and rules committee, and work as the technical and USA Volleyball advisor.

“I am excited to get the chance to work with Kerri Walsh Jennings and the staff at p1440 as the director of competition and sport,” said Selznick, p1440 director of competition and sport. “Their creative approach to enhancing beach volleyball with a broad range of activations including family-friendly festivals, and entertainment, paired with both grass-roots and pro-level beach volleyball makes the p1440 concept very appealing. Kerri and I have so much history together and it will be exciting to experience that winning success via the attractive concept that p1440 brings to the sport.”

Selznick brings over 40 years of experience as a volleyball player and coach to p1440.

As a player for 22 years, he has achieved many milestones, including 1980 World Champion of Beach Volleyball, 15 Pro Tour wins, 108 top-five finishes, and more. He’s been dubbed a “legend of beach volleyball” by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). Selznick has also trained over 50 Olympic athletes worldwide and over 750 domestic and international volleyball professionals from 27 countries.

Selznick is the only three-time USA Olympic Beach Volleyball coach (’96, ’00, ’04), winning a gold medal in 2004 with the team he coached for six years—Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor. Winning with Walsh Jennings in 2004 and now partnering with her for p1440 brings this duo full circle to elevate the sport of beach volleyball.

“Dane Selznick is the perfect choice as director of competition and sport for p1440 events,” said Walsh Jennings, p1440 co-founder. “Dane was born and raised in the sand and his journey in the sport has been dynamic and prolific. Dane offers a winning blend of traditional, ‘old school’ roots, along with a deep knowledge and respect for the current trends in the game. In the footsteps of his iconic father, Gene Selznick, Dane has experienced the sport from all perspectives, and he is truly an asset and a blessing. We are so proud to welcome him to our team.”
