For the first time in over two years — 747 days, to be exact — the Ohio State men’s volleyball team dropped a Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match.

No. 9 Lewis University dropped the fourth-ranked Buckeyes 25-18, 25-22, 25-23, to snap a 38-match MIVA winning streak that dated back to February 6, 2016.

Lewis attacked .373 and logged four more aces than the visitors to lock up the upset.

Ohio State opened the first set with a service error and Lewis went wire-to-wire with the lead, building its margin to as many as nine points.

During the second set, the Buckeyes swung .500 and held a 17-12 kills advantage, and even that wasn’t enough, as Lewis attacked .632 for the set. A five-point run during the middle stages of the set provided a commanding 20-14 lead en route to the 25-22 win.

Finally, in set three, Ohio State took a 7-3 lead before a Flyer timeout broke its momentum and led to a four-point run to tie things at 7-7. A hard-fought set would ultimately belong to Lewis.

The victory was the ninth straight home win for the Flyers, who improved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in league play.
