USA Volleyball has announced that it will hire Olympic and collegiate coach Tyler Hildebrand as the director of coaching for its Beach National Team Program.

Hildebrand’s position is a new one within USAV, aimed at providing the support needed by U.S. Beach National Team coaches and athletes to continue building upon its proud history.

Hildebrand will also have a presence in recruiting for the BNT and will be based at the USAV Beach National Team Training Center in Torrance, California.

“The Beach National Team Director of Coaching will be vital to the continued international success of USA Volleyball heading into Tokyo 2020 and beyond,” said Sean Scott, USAV Director of Beach National Teams.

“We are extremely honored and excited to have a coach of Tyler’s caliber in this new role and are looking forward to the wealth of knowledge and passion for the sport he will bring to USAV.”

Hildebrand previously served as an assistant coach for the defending national champion University of Nebraska women’s volleyball team.

He has extensive beach experience as well, having coached the likes of Kerri Walsh Jennings, April Ross, Jake Gibb, and Casey Patterson, among others.

Hildebrand was an assistant at Long Beach State from 2013-15 and an associate coach in 2016-17. During his tenure, The Beach made back-to-back NCAA Division Championship semifinal appearances in 2016 and 2017.

“I am both humbled and honored to accept this unique position,” Hildebrand said. “We have very talented coaches throughout the USAV Beach pipeline and some of the world’s best are coaching our current national teams.

“Although I have been fortunate to have a diverse background in many different areas of volleyball, my heart and passion lies within beach volleyball. I am excited to get to work with the USAV Beach performance team, Sean Scott and staff, and the many gifted athletes and coaches we have and will have in the future.”

Hildebrand was a four-year starter at Long Beach State from 2003-06, during which time he was a three-time first team AVCA All-American. He played for the U.S. men’s national team from 2006-12.
