Steve Aird is the newest head women’s volleyball coach at Indiana University.

Aird spent the last four years at the helm of the University of Maryland program; this fall he led the Terrapins to 18 wins, marking the best season for the program since 2010.

“Being located in the middle of a volleyball hotbed and opening a new, state-of-the-art $17 million facility, it was important that Indiana University hire the right coach to lead our program into this exciting new era,” Indiana athletic director Fred Glass said. “In Steve Aird we have found that person. He is an elite recruiter, a program-builder of the highest order, a great trainer and tactician, knows the conference well, connects with and graduates his students, and is regarded as one of the best young coaches in America.”

Aird’s Terrapins took down top-25-ranked USC and Purdue during the 2017 season, after bringing in nationally-ranked recruiting classes in both 2016 and 2017.

“I am humbled and honored to accept the head coaching position at Indiana University," Aird said. "I believe Indiana volleyball has a rightful place among the nation's elite and we will work tirelessly to make that a reality."

Before taking over the Maryland program, Aird was an assistant coach at Penn State, Cincinnati, and Auburn. As a member of the Penn State men’s volleyball team from 1997 to 2001, Aird led the Nittany Lions to three Final Four appearances.
