Meet The 2017 Under Armour All-Americans: Ade’ Owokoniran

To get an idea of what Ade’ Owokoniran’s contributions at the collegiate level might be like when she makes her debut at Duke next fall, think of Danielle Cuttino of Purdue. Like Cuttino, Owokoniran is a middle blocker with the skill and athleticism to play on the outside, while putting on a display of explosive power when in the middle.

Her heavy arm swing as an outside hitter for Wakefield this fall helped Owokoniran lead the team with 421 kills, hitting .332. She also had 41 blocks, tying sophomore Sarah Wilson for most on the team. And it’s those blocks that give her the most satisfaction.

“[Housing] someone is the best feeling in the world,” she said.

Ade’ Owokoniran

Position: Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter

Height: 6-foot-2

High School: Wakefield (Raleigh, NC)

Club: Triangle

College Commitment: Duke

The daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Owokoniran has a bubbly personality that she describes as contagious, and her celebrations are legendary on her high school and club teams. In choosing Duke for college, she says she’s joining a program that feels like a family in addition to attending a prestigious academic institution that could help her one day get her ideal job as a diplomat.

The high-flying hitter earned a spot on the USA Volleyball Youth A1 Training Team and spent time in Florida training and competing in the High Performance Championships.
