Semifinalists Have Been Determined In CIF Divisions 1-5

At the end of Tuesday night, 20 teams in Divisions 1 through 5 in the state of California can say they've earned the right to keep competing after Thanksgiving.

SoCal Division 1 Semifinal Results

No. 1 Santa Margarita def. No. 5 Bishops 25-16, 25-15, 25-13

No. 3 San Juan Hills def. No. 2 Long Beach Poly 25-17, 25-20, 25-19

San Juan Hills defeating Long Beach Poly is a minor upset by seed line, but when you reach this point in the tournament, you have to be playing pretty good volleyball.

SoCal D1 Semifinal Standouts

San Juan Hills juniors outside hitter/opposite Abbey Dayton recorded 13 kills and posted a hitting percentage of .324 in a sweep of Long Beach Poly.

NorCal Division 1 Semifinal Results

No. 1 James Logan def. No. 12 Burlingame 25-18, 25-12, 25-19

No. 6 Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep def. No. 7 Branson 25-18, 25-21, 25-16

No surprises here as both winners moved onto Saturday's regional finals in sweeps.

James Logan senior outside hitter Tatiana Toleafoa posted 16 kills and 14 digs in a sweep of No. 12 Burlingame.

No. 2 La Salle def. No. 3 Olympian 25-17, 25-12, 25-19

No surprises here as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds reached Saturday night's final.

No. 2 St. Paul def. No. 6 Poway 25-20, 25-21, 15-25, 27-25

No surprises here as our top two seeds reached Saturday’s regional final, surviving stiff tests from underdogs.

St. Paul’s senior middle blocker Natalie Tostado recorded 19 kills and 14 blocks as the Swordsmen advanced to Saturday’s regional final against Point Loma.

No. 4 Lincoln def. No. 1 Santa Catalina 16-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-22

No. 11 Sonora def. No. 2 Los Gatos 18-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-21

With the elimination of the top two seeds, this region has officially become the region of upsets.

Another regional No. 1 went down in University City, which is my semifinal upset of the round.

In defeat, Avalon DeNecochea recorded 17 kills and 16 digs for University City as it fell to No. 4 Foothill Tech.
