AZ Storm 16 Thunder is composed of most of the crew that claimed the 2016 15 Open USAV national championship title with a 25-19, 25-22 win over Coast 15-1 Luis. GJNC MVP Amber Stivrin, a 6-1 outside, returns for 16 Thunder as does hard-hitting BYU recruit opposite Kate Grimmer.

Coast 16-1 Luis returns an outstanding roster led by Nebraska recruit Madison Endsley, a 6-2 outside/opposite, and USC-bound 6-0 setter Emily Fitzner.

Asics Munciana Lorax took home the AAU 15 Open crown in 2016 by defeating Mizuno Northern Lights 15-1 25-20, 25-21 in the title tilt. Munciana's 16s team (the Ninjas) will not include two members of that championship roster as Nebraska-bound outside Kenzie Knuckles and Minnesota committed setter Melanie Shaffmaster will play on coach Mike Lingenfelter's loaded Munciana Samurai 18 Open team in 2017. However, Asics Munciana Ninjas 16 Open does return Ohio State committed libero Kylie Murr and they expect to be in the title chase again in 2017.

Mizuno Northern Lights 16-1 has every right to feel good about their prospects in 2017 as they return a lineup paced by University of Iowa commits 6-3 outside Kyndra Hanson and 6-2 middle Blythe Rients and UCLA-bound libero Marissa Hinkle.

The AAU Junior National Championships are June 23-26, 2017 in Orlando and the USAV Junior National Championships will be held in Minneapolis, July 1-4, 2017.
