Soon-to-be four-time Olympian outside hitter Reid Priddy made the team and will become only the second U.S. men’s volleyball player to compete in four Olympics, joining Lloy Ball on that prestigious list. Middle blocker David Lee will play in his third Olympics, and two members of the London team, pin hitter Matt Anderson and middle David Smith, also made the cut.

The remaining eight athletes will be competing in their first-ever Olympic Games, including very recent college grads Micah Christenson, Thomas Jaeschke, Aaron Russell and Taylor Sander. Brothers Erik and Kawika Shoji, both Stanford alums, along with opposite Murphy Troy and middle Max Holt round out the 12-man team.

In a comment to USAV, Speraw said inexperience would be his young team’s biggest challenge. “In order for us to achieve our goal, we are going to need one of the greatest collective efforts in USAV history. We don’t have the experience that past teams have had. For us to go through this is going to require all of us to be at our very best.”

The U.S. Men’s National Team plays in Rome this weekend in the first round of World League and will return to the U.S., July 1-3, to play three matches in Dallas.
