Ma'a goodness, what a save.
UCLA freshman star Micah Ma'a pulled off one of the best saves of the season Thursday night against Long Beach State. He jumped clear over a coach on the team's bench to keep the ball in play. And then --incredibly -- came back onto the court and dumped a free ball onto the other side of the net for a point.
Ridiculous stuff.
UCLA went on to beat Long Beach State, 26-24, 28-26, 25-19, in the MPSF semifinals in Provo, Utah. The Bruins will meet BYU, the top team in the nation, in the finals of the tournament Saturday.
Ma'a has been fantastic all year for UCLA, which is ranked No. 3 in the country. Ma'a is third on the team in kills (2.12 per set) and first in assists (6 per set). Coming out of Punahou HS in Hawaii, he was one of the top recruits in the entire country. Both Ma'a's mother and father played professional beach volleyball.
In other words, get ready to see more of this kind of thing out of him over the next three years. Exciting times in Westwood.
