Wisconsin-Oshkosh completed a perfect tournament to earn their first NCAA Division III volleyball championship in program history.

After beating all opponents from the first round to the semifinals with 3-0 shutouts, the only thing standing between the Titans and a title was the Dec. 6 match against the University of La Verne.

UW-Oshkosh closed out the regular season with a 28-3 overall record. La Verne had handed the Titans their first of just three losses back in September. However, the team entered the final with an 18-set winning streak behind them. That single game was merely a blip on the radar.

The Titans came out strong with a hard-fought 25-17 first set. In a haze of determination and skill, UW–Oshkosh won the following two sets 25-22 and 25-21 for another 3-0 shutout. And just like that, they were champions.

UW–Oshkosh outplayed La Verne in points (54-44), kills (43-33) and assists (37-32). Samantha Perlberg led her team with 16 kills, while Izzy Coon led with 17 assists.

Not only was this the Titans’ first national championship win, but it was only their second appearance in a final match — the first coming in the 1994 match against Washington University in St. Louis.

The historic end to a stellar season left the Titans returning to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with their heads held high.
