For Creighton baseball, closing out the 2024 season playing in its home city of Omaha would be a dream scenario. 

First, the Bluejays seek to return to the BIG EAST Conference mountaintop. 

Creighton endured some ups and downs in 2023, but the challenges of last season should prepare a veteran roster to contend for the conference championship in 2024. The Bluejays have built around some of the top returning hitters from the BIG EAST, while the corps of newcomers adds some strength to the pitching staff.

How Did Creighton Baseball Do In 2023?

Creighton baseball finished the 2023 season at 25-24 overall and 10-11 in the BIG EAST, middle of the pack in the conference but just out of the top four needed to qualify for the BIG EAST Championship.  

Who Coaches Creighton Baseball?

Ed Servais is in his 20th year as Creighton baseball coach. He stepped in as head coach in 2004 and in 2005, guided the Bluejays to the first of five NCAA Tournaments in his tenure. 

Servais is 643-387 as Creighton baseball coach with five conference championships: Two in the Missouri Valley, and three in the BIG EAST. 

Has Creighton Ever Won The College World Series?

No, Creighton has never won the College World Series. The Bluejays appeared in the CWS once in program history, going on a run in 1991. 

Notable Returning Players

Jack Grace, OF/DH 

Jack Grace earned All-BIG EAST recognition in 2023 as a designated hitter after knocking out 11 home runs and driving in 31 runs with a .295 average. 

Grace had 11 multiple-hit games in 2023, including a three-hit performance late in the season against UConn. 

Hogan Helligso, C 

Hogan Helligso joined Jack Grace on the All-BIG EAST team in 2023 with a team-leading .314 batting average. 

Helligso has been reliable behind the plate in his time at Creighton, as well, finishing each of his first two seasons as a Bluejay with fielding average north of .980 and 37 assists in 2022 and 2023 combined. 

Notable Newcomers

Jimmy Burke, RHP 

JUCO transfer Jimmy Burke was among the top NJCAA pitchers during his time at South Suburban College. He posted a 10-1 record over 13 starts in 2022 and struck out 59 batters. 

Burke pitched for the Clinton LumberKings of the Prospect League in the 2022 and 2023 summer leagues, amassing a 3.60 ERA in '23. 

Sam Vomhof, INF

A standout at UW-Whitewater, Sam Vomhof brings plenty of collegiate experience as a talented dual-threat pitcher and position player. 

Vomhof batted north of .400 at UWW a season ago and operated as a relief pitcher in 10 appearances. Playing for the Lakeshore Chinooks of the Northwoods League last summer, Vomhof hit .294 in 14 games.
