No. 6 Florida Starts Season With A Bang, Upsetting No. 1 Texas
Florida women's volleyball kicked off the 2017 season with an upset of preseason No. 1-ranked Texas in Gainesville.
There was something magical about August 25 for Florida women's sports teams. A few hours after the No. 8-ranked Gator women's soccer team took down No. 1 Stanford, No. 6 Florida women's volleyball beat No. 1 Texas 25-16, 25-23, 18-25, 25-21 in front of a crowd of 7,523 fans at the Vert Challenge in Gainesville.
With 14 kills from senior outside hitter Carli Snyder, Florida upset a No.1 ranked team for only the third time in program history.

Texas' star freshman outside hitter Lexi Sun led the Longhorns with 11 kills, but had nine errors in 56 total swings to hit .056. Senior opposite Ebony Nwanebu was the most effective offensive option for the Longhorns, hitting .500 with nine kills and zero errors on 18 attempts.
Another blow for Texas was playing the majority of the match without their 2016 kills leader Micaya White. White subbed out early in the second set with a heel injury and Yaasmeen Bedart-Ghani played the remainder of the match in her place, tallying five kills with three errors on 18 attempts to hit .111.
