The five-time Olympian Walsh Jennings has had her right shoulder surgically repaired five times. In Olsztyn, she and Branagh were in the midst of their best showing since forming their partnership in May of this year when the injury occurred in the third set of the pair's semifinal match versus Sarah Pavan and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Canada, with the score tied 14-14. Although Walsh Jennings managed to finish the match, Canada earned the victory, and the American pair chose to forfeit the bronze medal match the next day, settling for a fourth-place finish.

In addition to Branagh/Day, Americans April Ross/Lauren Fendrick, Sara Hughes/Kelly Claes, and Brooke Sweat/Summer Ross will compete in the women's side of World Champs. Casey Patterson/Theo Brunner, Phil Dalhausser/Nick Lucena, John Hyden/Ryan Doherty, and Jake Gibb/Taylor Crabb will represent the USA on the men's side.
