The IOC has announced that it will award the 2024 and 2028 Olympics to Los Angeles and Paris, but it has yet to determined which city will host in which year.

After Budapest, Hungary, withdrew its bid to host the 2024 Games in February, Paris and Los Angeles were the final two cities still in contention for that appointment, so during a meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, the IOC made the unusual choice to award both the 2024 and 2028 games at once.

Both Paris and Los Angeles have expressed a preference for 2024; however, various sources, including the New York Times, are indicating that Paris is a favorite for the earlier year since it would be exactly 100 years since the European city hosted the 1924 Summer Olympics. Los Angeles has hosted the Games twice--in 1932 and 1984.

The official selection of the 2024 host will take place on September 13 during a meeting of the IOC in Lima, Peru.
