USA Women Sweep Canada In Friendly Match

The U.S. women's national team defeated Canada 25-21, 25-22, 27-25, 25-11 (bonus fourth set) in a friendly match on Tuesday at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA.

The U.S. women's national team defeated Canada 25-21, 25-22, 27-25, 25-11 (bonus fourth set) in a friendly match on Tuesday at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, CA.
 
The match marked the official start of competition for both teams in the new quadrennial, which leads up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Both teams are also preparing to compete in the 2017 NORCECA Pan-American Cup in Peru on June 17-25.

Each of the 14 players on the Team USA roster started in two of the four sets. Micha Hancock and Lauren Carlini shared setting duties. Justine Wong-Orantes and Amanda Benson split time at the libero position, and Liz McMahon and Annie Drews were the opposites. The four outsides hitters were Michelle Bartsch, Sonja Newcombe, Megan Courtney, and Madi Kingdon, and the middles were Hannah Tapp, Paige Tapp, Rhamat Alhassan, and Amber Rolfzen.

As a team, the U.S. hit .246 and collected 10 blocks and eight aces. Courtney and Rolfzen led the team with nine points each, while Kingdon put away eight points.
 
Team USA will kick off competition at the Pan-Am Cup on Saturday, June 17, with a match versus Venezuela.
