On the men's side, world No. 1-ranked Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena lead the selections for Team USA, with Casey Patterson/Theo Brunner, Jake Gibb/Taylor Crabb, and John Hyden/Ryan Doherty also earning spots in the field for the FIVB World Championships, which run from July 8 to August 6.
Brooke Sweat and Summer Ross, who have reached the medal rounds in FIVB tournaments twice already this season, are the highest-ranking U.S. women's team to qualify. April Ross/Lauren Fendrick, Kelly Claes/Sara Hughes, and Kerri Walsh Jennings/Nicole Branagh also punched their tickets to Vienna, with Walsh Jennings and Branagh, who have yet to play a single tournament together this season, earning their spot as one of four selections by the NORCECA Confederation.
In total, 48 teams per gender will compete at the World Championships, with 23 earning qualification through their FIVB World Tour rankings, 20 selected by their regional confederation (four selections from each of the five confederations), two spots awarded to teams from the host country, and three wild cards per gender.
