The AVP wants to spike discrimination.
The beach volleyball tour will unveil a public service announcement centered around anti-discrimination during the television broadcast of the FIVB/AVP Cincinnati Open finals on Saturday. You can watch the video below.
The AVP teamed up on the PSA with RISE, a nonprofit organization that attempts to use sports and athletics to advance race relations and aid social progress.
“RISE represents an extraordinary union across the sports world,” AVP managing partner Donald Sun said in a press release. “No matter what sport you represent, we all believe in standing up for equality, respect and understanding.”
Phil Dalhausser, Casey Patterson, April Ross, Jake Gibb and Nicole Branagh are among the AVP athletes appearing in the ad. The players urge viewers to take RISE’s pledge, which is as follows:
The goal of the partnership between AVP and RISE is to encourage people to take a stand against discrimination in their communities and keep it out of the sport of volleyball and its stadiums.
The commercial will first air Saturday and then it will be a staple of AVP broadcasts throughout the rest of the season.
