Breaking News: Hawaii Announces Search For New Head Coach

Hawaii Announces Head Coach Search

The University of Hawaii Athletic department announced a nationwide job search for a new head women's volleyball coach on Monday, February 6, 2017.

"The selection is contingent upon the anticipated retirement of current head coach Dave Shoji," the announcement from the university read. Longtime head coach Dave Shoji revealed that he has prostate cancer in December, after the conclusion of the 2016 women's season, and is currently going through treatment.

The announcement indicates that Shoji's retirement timeline may be affected by the progress of his cancer treatment.

"Coach Shoji means so much to the University of Hawaii," athletic director David Matlin said. "We've been meeting regularly and determined that this was the best step as we move forward with the future of the Rainbow Wahine program."
