Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes Cap College Careers With USAV Pairs Title
Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes won the 2017 USA Volleyball Collegiate Pairs Championship on May 13, in Hermosa Beach, California, adding the first-ever USAV pairs title to three team national championships (2015, 2016, and 2017) and the 2015 AVCA pairs title.

Claes and Hughes were one of four Southern California women’s pairs competing in the USAV tournament, and they faced fellow Trojans Terese Cannon and Nicolette Martin in the final, winning 19-21, 21-13, 15-11.

Pepperdine’s Brittany Howard and Corinne Quiggle won bronze, defeating Georgia State’s Chelsea Ross and Delaney Rohan.

In the men’s tournament, Lucas Yoder of USC and Michael Saeta of UC Irvine won the men’s gold medal, defeating UCLA pair Jackson Bantle and Hagen Smith 21-16, 21-13.

Winning men’s bronze was Nathan Vander Meer of Davenport University and Logan Webber of Cincinnati Christian, who defeated Brett Rosenmeier and Colton Cowell, 21-15, 12-21, 15-11.
