Top 4 NCAA Men's Volleyball Matches Of The Weekend
The top NCAA men's volleyball matches of the weekend include defending national champs Ohio State and fellow Midwestern powerhouses Lewis and Loyola.
It's only a couple weeks into the men's college volleyball season, and we've already seen some really big matches. In particular, previously unranked Loyola upset then-No. 2 BYU, and top-ranked Ohio State proved its dominance with a victory over No. 3 UCLA.
This weekend, Pepperdine travels to the Midwest, and the defending champion Buckeyes head west for some of the biggest matchups of the week.
The Ramblers kicked off the season with a bang by upsetting BYU. Now, No. 8 Loyola will host another top opponent, with Pepperdine making the trip to Chicago this weekend. The No. 4-ranked Waves defeated Canadian powerhouse McMaster twice last weekend, but this will be Pepperdine's first weekend on the road this season.

Penn State got an important non-conference victory last weekend, knocking off USC in five sets at the AVCA Showcase in Columbus, Ohio. A win at Ball State on Friday would be another valuable notch in the Nittany Lions' belt, especially with George Mason and Saint Francis expected to be tough opponents once conference play begins. Ball State had a good showing at the Outrigger Invitational last week.

Friday, January 13, 7 PM PT
Stanford's elite recruiting class will be put to the test this weekend as the Cardinal host defending champion Ohio State on back-to-back nights. Both teams are 3-0 so far in 2017, with Ohio State taking down USC, UCLA, and George Mason, and Stanford going undefeated at the UCSB ASICS Invitational, defeating Mount Olive, Quincy, and McKendree. Friday's match will be played in the 7,233-seat Maples Pavilion, but Saturday's will be in the smaller Burnham Pavilion.

After playing Loyola on Friday, Pepperdine will stay in Illinois to take on Lewis on Saturday. Lewis is 1-1 so far in 2017, having opened the season with a 0-3 loss to a tough BYU squad before defeating NJIT in four. Redshirt sophomore opposite Mitch Perinar leads the Flyers with 29 kills in two matches, hitting .472. On the Waves side, look for sophomores David Wieczorek and Michael Wexter to pose the biggest threat from the pins.
