Defending national champion Nebraska looked to be well on its way to winning its 29th consecutive match. The top-ranked Huskers won the first set in their match against No. 18 Ohio State 25-17, much to the delight of the Nebraska fans inside Devaney Center on Saturday.

However, the gritty Buckeyes weren't ready to surrender and won the next three sets to hand the Huskers their first loss of the season.

Ohio State sophomore setter Taylor Hughes contributed six kills as the Buckeyes fought to a 25-21 second-set victory.

In the third, Ohio State hit an almost unbelievable .536 to Nebraska's .312 on the way to another 25-21 victory.

Senior middle Taylor Sandbothe's five blocks in the fourth set helped set the tone and force the Huskers to hit an ugly -.057. The Buckeyes dominated on serve receive, taking back the point immediately every time the Huskers had a chance to serve, and clinched the match with a 25-13 win in the final set.

Ohio State was missing one of its starting outsides, Audra Appold, who is out indefinitely with an injury. Luisa Schirmer stepped up to lead the team with 16 kills, while Sandbothe added 12 and nine blocks. Freshmen Brooke Bailey and Madison Smeathers contributed five and seven kills, respectively, while fellow frosh Camry Halm led the team with 14 digs.

The victory marked the third straight time Ohio State has defeated Nebraska in Lincoln.
