The Swatch Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals will take place in Toronto, Canada, September 14-17, 2016. Twelve teams per gender will compete in the season-
The Swatch Beach Volleyball World Tour Finals will take place in Toronto, Canada, September 14-17, 2016. Twelve teams per gender will compete in the season-ending tournament, battling for their share of the $500,000 purse.
Eight teams per gender qualified for the event thanks to their FIVB tour rankings, and four wildcard teams per gender filled out the draw.
Americans Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena and Tri Bourne and John Hyden made it in, but Casey Patterson and Jake Gibb did not, despite ranking eighth on tour. Only two teams per country per gender are allowed to compete, so Patterson and Gibb were out of luck.
On the women's side, only Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross will represent the USA.
Olympic gold medalists Alison Cerutti and Bruno Oscar Schmidt of Brazil and Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst of Germany hope to once again finish atop the podium, while FIVB Long Beach Grand Slam champions Walsh Jennings and Ross and Pedro Solberg Salgado and Evandro Goncalves will fight for back-to-back golds.
